Backxwash aka Ashanti Mutinta is a Zambian-Canadian rapper & producer based in Montreal, Quebec. Her work is rooted in hip hop, with layered and experimental production that draws from a wide spectrum of genres. Past projects have incorporated elements of industrial metal and horrorcore, while consistently exploring themes at the intersection of faith, identity, and queerness. The poetry of her lyrics are the beginning of a cathartic healing process in which she is granting herself permission to be angry.
