Cleo Reed (née Ella Josephine Julia Moore) is a multidisciplinary artist working across participatory art, music composition, instrument-making, bandleading, installation, and textiles. Raised between NYC and DC, they studied at the Harlem School of the Arts and Berklee College of Music. Their 2025 double LP CUNTRY is a sprawling exploration of the rage that comes from grappling with the grips of labor on both the body and in the American workplace.
Fusing blues, soul, country, and dystopian electronics, CUNTRY reflects the dueling sides and opposing forces of Reed’s NYC upbringing and Southern lineage. The album was named one of the best of 2025 by Pitchfork, Stereogum, NPR Music, and That Good Sh*t. Reed has performed at the Brooklyn Museum, Lincoln Center, Afropunk, and New Orleans Jazz Festival, and toured with Sudan Archives, Nick Hakim, and Armand Hammer.
