sadbirthdays is the experimental music project led by Tsuut’ina/Amskapi Piikani/Cree multidisciplinary artist seth cardinal dodginghorse. Their music and performances swirl together elements of shoegaze, slowcore, and indie rock with cassette tape field recordings of nature and construction from their homelands in Treaty 7. Raised on the Tsuut’ina First Nations Reserve, in 2014 their family was forcibly removed from their homes and land for the construction of the Southwest Calgary Ring Road. This life changing event has been a driving force in their creative work. Early 2027 will see the release of their new album, catholic ladders, which was recorded in the residential schools that Seth’s grandfather attended.
