Ghost Rooster Collective is an interdisciplinary group of disabled artists based in Ottawa, Canada. Founded in 2021, the collective was created as a space for disabled artists to connect, collaborate, and create work that centers disability as both an identity and an artistic lens. We are committed to exploring accessibility as a creative practice, not just as an accommodation. For us, accessibility is a generative framework that opens up new possibilities for artistic expression, collaboration, and connection with audiences.
Our members come from a wide range of artistic disciplines, including dance, choreography, animation, film, puppetry, podcasting, and more. Together, we blur the boundaries between art forms, experimenting with hybrid approaches that reflect the diverse experiences and perspectives of disabled artists. Our work often moves across mediums, and we embrace innovative methods that rethink how art is created, shared, and experienced.
Rooted in the lived experiences of disability, Ghost Rooster Collective is deeply invested in expanding the representation of disabled artists in the arts, particularly in film and dance—fields where disabled bodies and narratives have historically been marginalized or misrepresented. We aim to challenge and disrupt traditional notions of who makes art, how it’s made, and who it’s for.
