Jonathan Djob Nkondo

Jonathan Djob Nkondo, a London-based illustrator and animator hailing from France, discovered his passion for drawing at a tender age, ignited by his fascination with cartoons and animation. Drawing from the alluring realms of his beloved manga and cartoons, Nkondo crafts dreamy animations that transport audiences into fantastical sci-fi landscapes.

Nkondo’s animation style is elegantly simple yet remarkably profound: employing minimal strokes, vibrant colours, and geometric shapes, he breathes life into his imaginative worlds. His creations challenge conventional norms of narrative filmmaking by skillfully conveying rich stories with minimal visual information. With this approach, he reimagines textures, shapes, and movement in myriad quirky ways, prompting viewers to question their perceptions while effortlessly engaging them in straightforward narratives.

A retrospective showcasing Nkondo’s magnetic body of work will unfold throughout OIAF 2024, offering a glimpse into his artistic evolution. Nkondo will be in attendance throughout OIAF 2024 as a jury member and speaker.
